About Terms of Service Privacy Policy

Built by a superintendent, for the people running the work

I'm Mo Zein, a site superintendent with nearly 10 years in the trades. Every job I've run had the same problem: the schedule in a spreadsheet, notes in my phone, drawings buried in email, and half the important stuff in my head. Big construction software is built for big GCs. It's more than most small contractors, foremen and supers need, or want to pay for.

So I built Fir & Field: a simple, phone-first app for the two-week lookahead, daily site notes and project files. It's built for the jobsite, not the boardroom.

Free Two-Week Lookahead Template (Excel)

A simple two-week lookahead for contractors, foremen and supers, built by a site superintendent who uses one every week. Plan the next 10 working days, catch blockers early, and print it on one page for the site meeting.

Download the free template (.xlsx)

No sign-up needed. Works in Excel and Google Sheets.

What's included

  • A 10-day plan (Mon–Fri, two weeks) with task, area, owner and status for each line
  • Day columns that fill in automatically from your start date
  • "What could hold us up?" section for blockers, who owns them and when they're needed
  • Materials and decisions tracker: needed by, ordered, on site
  • Site notes and handoff box
  • One-page printable layout

How to use it

  1. Add the project details and the Monday your plan starts.
  2. List the work, one clear task per row.
  3. Mark the days each task is planned.
  4. Update the status as the job moves: Ready, In Progress, Waiting or Done.
  5. Use the blocker and materials sections to catch problems before they stop the job.
  6. At the end of the week, save a copy and roll unfinished work into the next lookahead.

Tips from the field

  • "If Monday morning is when you decide what's happening Monday, you're already late. Update your lookahead every Thursday or Friday."
  • "Put a name next to every blocker. A problem with no owner doesn't get solved."
  • "Order-by dates matter more than needed-on-site dates. Long-lead items sink schedules."
  • "Keep it to two weeks. Further out than that is a schedule, not a lookahead."

Want it on your phone?

Fir & Field turns this lookahead into an app: a day-by-day view, a Gantt-style timeline, daily site notes with photos, project files, and a clean PDF to send the GC. Free for 14 days, no card needed.
